Simon's Simple File Sharing (SSFS), operated by the site owner (“we”, “us”), provides a service for uploading a file and sharing it through a single-use download link or code, including through the SSFS Chrome extension.
Information we handle
- Files and file details: when you choose to upload, the file itself, its original filename, file size, MIME type, generated sharing code and upload/expiry/download timestamps are sent to and processed by our server.
- Premium activation: if you buy Premium, PayPal processes the payment. Our server receives PayPal order and capture identifiers, amount, currency and payment status, and creates an activation code. When redeemed, an access token is generated; the extension stores that token locally in the browser's local storage. The website may store its token in that browser's local storage.
- Technical information: our hosting platform and server may process IP address, request time, requested URL, user-agent and error/security logs as part of operating, protecting and troubleshooting the service.
- Support messages: if you contact us, we process the information you choose to send.
How we use information
We use this information only to provide file upload, sharing, download and Premium functionality; enforce file size and expiry limits; remove files after successful download or expiry; verify payments and activate Premium; prevent abuse, protect the service, troubleshoot faults and meet legal obligations.
Files, retention and sharing
Uploaded files are stored on our server in a non-public storage directory. A file is made available to someone who has its sharing link or code. Each share is intended for one successful download; after a successful download the stored file and its database record are deleted. Undownloaded files are automatically removed after the configured expiry period (currently 72 hours). Backups, security logs or legally required records may persist for a limited period according to the hosting and operational retention cycle.
Payments and third parties
PayPal handles checkout and payment-card/account information under its own privacy terms. We do not receive or store your full card or PayPal account password. We use our hosting provider and infrastructure services to operate SSFS; those providers may process technical data on our behalf. We do not sell personal information or use uploaded file contents for advertising. We do not share information except with service providers needed to run SSFS, when you share a file using its link/code, or where required for security or by law.
Chrome extension and local storage
The extension communicates with ssfs.simonward.net to retrieve plan settings, upload files selected by you, look up sharing codes, download files and redeem Premium activation codes. It stores the Premium access token locally in the browser so that you do not need to enter the activation code on every use. The extension does not read your browsing history, inspect page content, collect website visits or sell data for advertising. The extension requests access only to the SSFS service domain.
Security
Connections to SSFS use HTTPS. Access tokens and activation codes are used to control Premium access. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure; please do not upload information you are not authorised to share. Anyone with a valid share link/code may be able to download that file before it is used or expires.
Your choices and rights
You choose which files to upload and whether to purchase Premium. You can remove the extension and clear its local storage to remove the locally stored Premium token. For a privacy request, deletion request or question, contact the service operator through the contact details published on the SSFS website. We may need to verify your request before acting.
Children
SSFS is not designed for children and should not be used by children without appropriate permission and supervision.
Changes
We may update this policy when the service or legal requirements change. The current version will be published at this URL with its updated date.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Our use and transfer of information received from the Chrome extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use data only to provide and maintain the extension's file-sharing and Premium features, and do not sell it or use it for personalised advertising.
